Care Assistant – Various county locations

You will have an empathy with the needs of older people and understand the importance of treating our residents with dignity and respect. Job Purpose:

To attend to the individual needs of residents and to monitor them during the day or night.

Role Responsibilities:

  • To ensure a record is maintained of residents’ personal care needs in accordance with procedures and guidelines. Carry out routine risk assessments for clients and care planning. Complete daily contact sheets to show events affecting residents.
  • To advise senior staff of any issues (both personal and environmental) concerning welfare of residents to ensure continuing high standard of care.
  • To share information on individual residents’ care needs by liaising with residents, relatives and senior staff to ensure continuing high standards of care.
  • To spend time with the residents (both at the unit and on external trips), in order to build and maintain relationships and social contact. Shopping on client’s behalf when necessary.
  • Act as a key worker for several residents so that a special relationship is forged and maintained with them to promote their physical, emotional and social well-being.
  • Complete individual care plans with residents to ensure they receive appropriate care (with appropriate reference to senior staff).
  • To maintain a standard of cleanliness in residents’ rooms, including labelling of personal clothes, tidying of cupboards/drawers in order that individual comfort is afforded. To assist in maintaining individual standards of hygiene in accordance with client’s wishes so that personal dignity is retained.
  • To undertake appropriate activities with clients as identified in their care plans. This may refer to their interest in gardening, car maintenance, cookery, etc.
  • Maintain an awareness of corporate and departmental equalities and health and safety policies and procedures and applies them in the day to day job requirements.

 

Role Requirements:

  • Patience and good communication skills
  • An understanding of the client group
  • Physically able to assist client into bath (using equipment where necessary)
  • Trained and able to use equipment for moving/handling residents e.g. hoists, glide sheets (will be provided on appointment)
  • Writing skills (for daily records, care plans etc.)
  • Ideally, an NVQ2 in Social Care and some experience with dementia although these are not essential.
  • Minimum 6 months experience.

  • Wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Where there are gaps in training this can be provided. Training is to be provided at candidate cost or cab be deducted from contractor rates of pay at small cost.

Rate of Pay £9.79 -£14.69 Per Hour.
